OK, so I give up! I finally caved in to the pressure from all of you and wrote a book. When I developed my first few wacky characters I never dreamed it would blossom into the success it is today. I believe the appeal of my work comes from the fact that the images and stories are all based on real women. I have been blessed by an abundance of ordinary women who have accomplished extraordinary things. It's about these unrecognized feats of quiet, female heroism that I write. And it's the best subject matter on the planet. I had a ton of fun putting this together and I truly hope you enjoy it.
The book has a hard bound cover with 104 full-color pages. It is wrapped with a brilliant, eye-catching presentation dust jacket. There are twelve chapters including more than a dozen images and matching story. They are followed by a few pages of the true story of the woman behind each image. Then, just to spice things up, there is a recipe at the end of each chapter.
Introduction to She Who Has a Great Attitude
Ding-a-ling-a-ling…hello? Chit-chat-chit-chat . . . Yadda,
yadda, yadda . . . Laugh, laugh, giggle, snort, “Oh, by way, did I tell
you I have breast cancer?”
That’s how I found out my friend, Carrie, had been diagnosed with
stage-two breast cancer.
Carrie and I met over a decade ago. I signed up for one of her adult
watercolor classes through the adult-education program at our local
college. I was in one of those “I-gotta-do-something-fun-or-this-dreary-north-Idaho-winter-weather-is-gonna-drive-me-stark-raving-mad”
moods. I did not choose this class because I needed to explore the
medium of watercolor, but rather because the program had the word
“Adult” in the title. I was desperate to have a meaningful conversation
with anyone who didn’t call me “Mom.”
I walked into the room, and there, standing at the head of the class,
was a wild, wacky woman. Her looks, voice and mannerisms personified
the description of a free-spirited artist living in the woods of north
Idaho. Part mountain mama, part drama queen, Carrie was an extraordinary
enigma that defied all description. Paint was flying, she was barking
out instructions, and everyone one in the room was laughing
hysterically. I smiled. I knew this was just what I needed . . .
